GARY E. ELLWEIN, M.D.

Dr. Ellwein is one of the founding members of Pathology Associates and has practiced pathology in the region for over three decades. He has served on both the Idaho State Board of Medicine and the Idaho Board of Professional Disciplines for six years. For a two year term in each of these organizations, he was privileged to serve as Chairman. Dr. Ellwein has also contributed in leadership roles as the President of the Idaho Falls Medical Society and as the Chairman of the Pathology Department at EIRMC.

Gary graduated from North Dakota State University with his B.A. before attending the University of North Dakota College of Medicine and Baylor College of Medicine where he earned his M.D. He completed his internship in Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine and his Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency at the University of Colorado Medical Center.

Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology he is a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and is a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

Dr. Ellwein enjoys the outdoors and as the occasion presents itself, he will be found hiking or fly fishing. He and his wife Linda participate with their two children and two grandchildren in a variety of activities. For several years, Dr. Ellwein has become known as “coach” Ellwein for his grandchildren’s youth soccer teams.
