What is a pathologist and why do I need one?

You’ll probably never meet your pathologist, but we are there, as part of your healthcare team, to diagnose disease and interpret laboratory results that will enable your physician to make informed treatment decisions regarding your care. As pathologists, we are board certified in anatomical and clinical pathology and specialize in the study of body tissues and fluids. Whether examining tissue under the microscope or evaluating a CBC, we are the doctors behind the scene dedicated to making sure every diagnosis and test result is accurate and reliable.

How soon can I expect my biopsy results?

PAIF has a rapid 24-48 hour turnaround time, in most cases.  However, depending on the complexity of the case, your results may take longer.  Please stay in contact with your submitting physician to know when your results are available.  To check on the status of a report, you may call our office at (208) 529-6050.

How can I obtain a copy of my pathology report?

The best place to obtain a copy of your pathology report is with your submitting physician.  Often your treating physician will want the opportunity to discuss your pathology results with you directly, before giving you a copy of the report. 

You can also request and pick up a copy of your report directly with our office.  Please call to ensure your pathology report is finalized prior to arriving.   To obtain your results, you will be required to provide a form of identification (drivers license, passport, etc) and a signature for authorization of release (available upon arrival).   

I do not understand my pathology report.  Where can I get help?

The best resource to understand your pathology report is your treating physician.  They will be able to assist you with interpretation of your results and, most importantly, walk you through what the diagnosis means for you.  In most cases, your physician will contact you directly once your results are reviewed.  If you have not heard from your physician, please call their office to see if your results have been received.  You can also call PAIF directly to request a report or find out an estimated date/time your results will be ready.

How do I request slides or other materials be sent to another facility?

Please have your physicians office contact PAIF to request slides or other material be sent to another facility.
